How God Met a Hopeless Drug User at Band Rehearsal and Transformed Him Into a Successful Businessman

Troy Walker is a business entrepreneur from Alberta, Canada. He currently owns and runs more than a dozen companies. Born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Troy did not have an easy childhood.

"God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty…" (1 Cor. 1:27)

Looking back, Troy finds himself in amazement at how God can take someone so broken and seemingly worthless, and turn it around for His purpose and glory.

Troy was the youngest of 6 children.  His dad worked 3 jobs and his mom had a full time job just to keep food on the table for the family. Things were tough in the early years. His family didn't know the Lord back then.

Late one night, 6 years old Troy woke up to the sound of his parents fighting and he hid behind the wall to listen. His mom was in tears, crying about the hardships in their life, about how Troy's older brothers are always fighting and getting into trouble at school and about his sisters running away in rebellion. As she went through the things that were terrible in her life, she said, "And I have a son who is dumb."

Tears rolled down his face as he thought, "Both my parents has a job taking care of handicapped children. Well, I guess I must be handicapped just like them…"

Troy accepted those words that were spoken over his life that night. From that moment on, no matter how hard he tried at school, he could never attain more than 50%. Little did he know, he actually suffers from dyslexia, which was the reason why he struggled in school.

People can say all sorts of things about you. But when you accept it, it becomes a part of you. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit." (Proverbs 18:21)

Troy bought into that lie and went down a wrong path. He got involved with the wrong crowd and started using drugs when he was 8 years old. He had no hope.

When he was 14 years old, Troy set a goal for himself - if he can lived to 20 years old, then he would have lived a full life. He knows that with the lifestyle he was living, even 6 years was a far stretch.

His life started turning around when he met a group of Christians who told him, upon their first meeting, things which the Lord had revealed to them.  These were things that Troy had never told anyone about. So his first impression was, "Wow, these are powerful guys!"

They started praying for him and his rock band. Soon, Troy started attended the bible studies together with his band. Slowly but surely, God started working on them.

Thanks to the love of his fellow Christians, Troy came to know the Lord and gave his life to Christ. His life was never the same again.

In fact, the goal he had set out to do when he was 14, it came true. At the age of 20, he died to his old self, got baptized and rose again as a new man.

"Lord, I don't think I can be a Christian. But Lord, can you help me be one?"

That has been Troy's prayer for the past 28 years.

Today, Troy is married for 25 years with 3 children who are serving God. Career-wise, he has several successful companies and God has given him multi-million, innovative ideas that has help transformed industries.

Troy Walker is the perfect example of what God can do with a surrendered life.
