The Word of God has been my Lifeline for close to 40 years. When my wife Joyce and I were married in 1975, we received a Bible from my eldest sister, Shirley, as a wedding gift. She has since gone on to be with the Lord at far too young of an age. My sister knew I was on a 10-year spiritual journey, yet still resistant to surrender my life to God.
One year after receiving the Bible, my father passed away. It was at the funeral home that I remember asking God the question of life after death. By His Holy Spirit, God prompted me to read the Bible I had been dusting off on the night table for the past year. This special wedding gift from my sister was a good, old fashioned King James Open Bible Edition, which included the Master Study Guideline.
As I took time over the next three months, this study guide took me in depth into the basic questions of faith such as, who is God the Father, who is Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Forgiveness, Witnessing and a variety of other topics. Before long, I found myself immersed in the Scriptures where God miraculously breathed new life into me.
For a solid week, the words of Jesus from John's Gospel would not leave my mind…
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." (John 3:3 KJV)
After years of hopelessness and despair, I finally surrendered my life to Christ at a local church. Precious are the words my sister wrote on the front page of our treasured Bible...
"Dear George and Joyce….Do not treat this book as a collector's item to be cherished but not used. It will fulfill our fondest dreams for you both if it becomes worn through daily reference."
I thank God for His God-Breathed Word and the undeniable power and reliability of Scripture. It has forever changed my life.
